How startup rankings work
Most “startup leaderboards” mix launches, directories, and ads. The useful question is the sort key. Here it is money on a public listing. That is not a valuation, a user count, or a prize.

What founders usually mean
They want other people to find the product. Launch threads, newsletters, and paid placements all do that. Rankings add an order. If the order is “featured,” you are looking at a directory slot. If the order is a published number, you can audit it.
On OutbidMe
A startup listing is a named row on a category board — marketing, agents, developer tools, and the rest. Rank is the listing amount. A company and a person use the same rule. Votes are a public score. They do not take #1.
What it will not tell you
It will not tell you which startup is “best.” It tells you who paid the most to be listed here. If you need traction metrics, use your own dashboard. If you want a priced, public rank, take a listing.
